Funky new line of hand made picture jewelry aimed at Hispanic women
February 8, 2004--Being a "big-hair" girl all her life, Arizona artist and craft book author Kathy Cano Murillo whipped up a line of big, bold chunky and colorful earrings that would stand out among her thick, dark and curly black hair.
She discovered she wasn't alone. Other Latinas and "big-hair" girls were elated to discover Kathy's new designs, which she followed up with a line of picture bracelets featuring copies of vintage images from her Mexican-American culture.
She calls the line "Latina Power" and has unleashed them onto the retail world. The bracelets are currently being sold in boutiques all over the country, from Arizona to Florida to New York City.
The bracelets are made from wood, acrylic paints, micro stars and varnish and the earrings are hand sculpted from polymer clay and hand painted in ornate detail. Bracelets retail for $30.00 and earrings for $25.00.
Kathy Cano Murillo is a professional craft designer, newspaper columnist and artist. She resides in Phoenix, AZ with her artist/husband and two kids. She has authored three natioanl craft books: Making Shadow Boxes & Shrines, La Casa Loca and the soon to be released The Crafty Diva's DIY Style Book.
